Jay is a semi-closeted, gay nineteen-year-old living with his mother, Esther. One night Esther's artist boyfriend, Helmut, stays over. After the couple has sex (which Jay overhears) Helmut goes to the bathroom and "accidentally" encounters Jay in the hallway. Both men are naked.

Jay is turned on by the sight of the fifty-two-year-old man's aging but fit body and enormous endowment. Embarrassed, he retreats to his bedroom. Helmut knocks and enters Jay's room. He reveals that he is bisexual and has long suspected that Jay is either bisexual or gay. Jay's reaction to his naked body, Helmut says, has confirmed his suspicions.
